No expense is spared on this blinding drop, sourced from the same alluvial plain in Marlborough as the now legendary Sauvignon Blanc. It's treated to a lavish dose of oak and as a result is ripe and full-bodied with superb flavours of citrus fruit, underpinned with a yeasty, nutty character and finished with a touch of flinty elegance. Cloudy Bay Chardonnay is an intriguing, textural wine and this particular vintage is highly sought after - it's well worth claiming some for your collection.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Kelly Stuart
Kelly joined Cloudy Bay as a cellar hand in 2016, becoming Assistant Winemaker two years later, and Winemaker in 2023. She has represented Cloudy Bay twice in the Young Winemaker of the Year awards and was the national runner-up in 2018. She keeps Cloudy Bay's cellars running smoothly, guiding cellar hands, machinery and grapes through each step of the winemaking process.
"The Cloudy Bay Chardonnay is a reflection of its sunny origin, expressing intense aromas of peaches, nectarines, aromatic herbs and biscuit. A light entry of stone fruit becomes a slippery midpalate that re-focuses to an aromatic and mineral finish. Batches of fruit from seven vineyards were picked according to flavour profile. After hand picking and careful pressing, the wine was 100% barrel fermented and spent one year in oak before being bottled." - Kelly Stuart, Winemaker.
