The Wine The Wine
Argentina
Region:Mendoza - Uco Valley
A daring idea - uniting the richness of Malbec with the traditional Appassimento method - has blossomed into something truly special. A chance conversation with Bodega Urqo at a wine fair set the project in motion, resulting in an exclusive wine made solely for us. It's a genuine rarity, with just 11,760 bottles crafted from grapes gently dried to concentrate flavour and add depth. Sourced from the high-altitude Los Chacayes vineyard at 1,400 metres, the fruit reflects one of the Uco Valley's most exciting emerging regions. The result is a captivating fusion of Italian technique and Argentinian spirit.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Leonardo Pisano
Born into a Uruguayan winemaking family, Leo Pisano moved to Mendoza at 18 to study oenology, and the Uco Valley captured him so completely he never left. With more than 20 harvests behind him, he now leads the winemaking at Bodega Urqo, where the Urquia family has transformed 300 hectares of raw high-altitude desert into a strikingly modern estate. Their vineyards in Los Chacayes and Tupungato thrive under intense mountain light and sandy, mineral soils, producing fruit of remarkable character. Guided by Leo, with the support of respected consultant Daniel Pi, the wines express the purity and energy of the Andes.
"Our mountain Malbec is already super-rich in concentration and colour so in Concolor we push that even further by drying the grape, appassimento-style, which brings even more power to the palate." - Leonardo Pisano, Winemaker.
