The Wine The Wine
Argentina
Region:Mendoza - Uco Valley
Grown at the foot of the towering Andes, this Uco Valley Malbec captures the intensity of three vineyards at 1,000-1,200 metres above sea level. After fermentation, 30% is aged in French oak for three months, and the rest remains in stainless steel to preserve purity. Vibrant and expressive, it opens with damson and blueberry aromas, leading to an agile, balanced palate of fresh red and black fruit with a hint of black tea. Silky tannins and bright acidity carry a poised finish that clearly reflects its high-altitude provenance.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Leonardo Pisano
Born into a Uruguayan winemaking family, Leo Pisano moved to Mendoza at 18 to study oenology, and the Uco Valley captured him so completely he never left. With more than 20 harvests behind him, he now leads the winemaking at Bodega Urqo, where the Urquia family has transformed 300 hectares of raw high-altitude desert into a strikingly modern estate. Their vineyards in Los Chacayes and Tupungato thrive under intense mountain light and sandy, mineral soils, producing fruit of remarkable character. Guided by Leo, with the support of respected consultant Daniel Pi, the wines express the purity and energy of the Andes.
"Palo Santo Malbec is a pure expression of our unique mountain soils - restrained, bright and elegant with concentration and the aromatics of the high Andean desert." - Leonardo Pisano, Winemaker.
